Customer Testimony: "How Active Manuka Honey healed fresh operational Scar from Torn Rotator Cuff Operation beautifully!"

I healed my fresh operational scar beautifully with Active Manuka Honey, without ending up with a 1 inch wide 'plastic looking' scar. My doctor was TOTALLY against it, me applying honey onto his surgery scar. He was worried that I was going to 'get an infection'! When in fact honey destroys wound bacteria!!! I went body surfing on Oahu on the famous Waikiki Beach. I used only my body as a 'surfboard' and was riding the awesome waves with stretched out arms.

How to apply Active Manuka Honey to any type of wound?

Active Manuka Honey is applied to burns, wounds, ulcers, sores, surgical scars, decubitus sores (bed sores), diabetic leg and foot ulcers, amputation stump wounds and other MRSA and VRE staph infected wounds. Gently wash the wound with a saline solution. Apply Active Manuka Honey to a sterile gauze, similar like spreading honey onto a toast, not too much and not too little. Then apply the gauze with the honey attached to the wound. Apply 2-3 additional layers of gauze on top of the first gauze layer, in order to help soak up excess body fluid and honey. Secure gauze around the edges with skin friendly paper tape to keep the gauze in place.

Change the Active Manuka Honey Wound Dressing once every 24 hours in the evening. Again gently wash the wound with a saline solution and apply the next honey dressing, until the wound is completely healed.

If a wound has a mal odor, it is infected. Once you start applying Active Manuka Honey to a wound, you can expect the mal odor to subside within 5-10 days, depending on the size and depth of the wound, that is about how long it takes to help clear up the infection. Next you will notice that the wound will appear less and less deep. Then you should start to see healthy pink skin form around the edges of the wound and last you’ll notice the edges of the wound shrinking in size, until the wound is completely healed.

We recommend that you document the wound healing progress by taking good, sharp clear digital photos with good lighting. Take a photo about every 3-4 days or more, depending on how fast the wound is healing. When you submit the wound photos to us, and with your permission to publish the photos online at www.manukahoneyusa.com/CustomerTestimonies.htm, we will send you a reward including free shipping. By submitting your photo story to us, you will help other people by encouraging them to give this medicinal honey a try.

Active Manuka Honey Wound Creme 18+?

Has Active Manuka Honey been Researched?

Active Manuka Honey has been researched by Dr. Peter Molan, Senior Lecturer of the Waikato University, New Zealand for over 20 years. Dr. Molan has found that Active Manuka Honey seems to naturally destroy staphaureus, streptococcus (even antibiotic resistant MRSA, Golden Staph), as well as h. pylori (helicobacter pylori), the bacteria typically associated to stomach ulcers. For more information about Dr. Molan's Reserach work, please visit the website of the Waikato University.

The non-peroxide (UMF activity) in Active Manuka Honey has been described by Molan and Russell (1998) and Allen (1991). The non-peroxide antibacterial activity in honey is important for wound care uses, since the factor is not reduced by catalyses activity in tissues or blood (Cooper 1999).

Active Manuka Honey has been shown in laboratory studies to have antibacterial activity against the 7 most common species of bacteria found in wounds. 58 strains of Staphylococcus Aureus isolated from infected wounds showed complete inhibition at concentrations of 2-3% Active Manuka Honey. The effect was caused by factors in addition to the sugar in the honey (Cooper 1999). Methicillin-Resistant Staph Auereus (MRSA) strains have also been tested against Active Manuka Honey, with complete inhibition shown at 10% honey concentration (Molan 1996).

Active Manuka Honey also inhibits the growth of Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci (VRE) at about half the concentration of clover honey with hydrogen peroxide activity (Allen 2000). Honey, including Active Manuka Honey, has shown the prevent the growth of Pseudomonas spp. found on the surface of a wound, even if the honey was diluted 10 fold by exudation from the tissue (Cooper and Molan 1996).

In addition to the antimicrobial activity present in honey, honey enhances wound healing by a variety of other means. (Molan 1998/1999, Subrahmanyam 1991). These include

a) providing a moist, but sterile environment for tissue re-growth which
enhances tissue formation and reduces tissue deformity

b) eliminating tissue damage caused by the use of standard antibiotics

c) the osmotic effect pulling up serum from the body into the wound

d) the osmotic effect absorbing pus from the wound

e) providing glucose used by white blood cells to create the 'respiratory
    burst' needed to destroy bacteria

f) providing a natural barrier between the wound and the dressing, which
protects new cell growth tissue from being torn away when the dressing is
changed, providing a painless wound dressing change

g) providing acidification of the wound, which has been shown to stimulate healing,
by creating an anti-inflammatory effect through the reduction in the number of
inflammatory cells in wound tissue (honey has antioxidant properties) providing
wound bacteria with nutrients instead of amino acids, thus encouraging the
bacteria to produce lactic acid instead of ammonia (the chemical associated with
   odor in skin ulcers).

Dr. Peter Molan (1998) has carried out comprehensive review of case studies, animal studies and randomized clinical trials, where honey was used to treat wounds, burns and skin ulcers. Dunford (2000) has presented case studies describing the use of Active Manuka Honey in the treatment of wound and chronically infected lesions, including a case where massive skin lesions and necrosis resulting from meningococcal septicemia not responding to conventional treatment, healed completely within 10 weeks of the start of Active Manuka Honey treatment (Dunford 2000).

What does 'UMF' and the UMF Rating mean?

UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor. The UMF number is a standard way of describing the anti-bacterial strength of Active Manuka Honey. The honey is put in a plate with a bacterial culture, and the area is measured where the bacterial growth is stopped. This area is compared to a similar area produced by a solution of phenol and water. The UMF number refers to the percentage of phenol in the water. So Active Manuka Honey is honey that has the same anti-bacterial strength as 10% phenol. Active Manuka Honey has very powerful antibacterial activity. It can destroy staphaureus bacteria even when it is diluted to only 1.8% honey concentration in water. It has also been shown to effectively destroy Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus,  MRSA (also called the Golden Staph or "Super Bug") at 10% honey concentration).

Are there any side-effects to Active Manuka Honey"

There are no known side effects to Active Manuka Honey when used internally, unless you are allergic to honey itself. Occasionally, when Active Manuka Honey is used on an external wound, it can burn and sting for a while, because of it's high activity level. If the burning and stinging persists after 5-10 minutes, the Active Manuka Honey must be removed from the wound and can be replaced with Regular Manuka Honey. The Regular Manuka Honey should not burn and sting at all when applied to a wound and can still be quite effective in helping the wound heal all natural.

Which Manuka Honey strength should I use for internal or external applications?

Active Manuka Honey with a UMF range between 16-18:

Internal uses of Active Manuka Honey include: acid reflux, esophaghitis, heartburn, gastritis, up-set stomach (after food poisoning), stomach ulcer, h. pylori (helicobacter pylori = stomach ulcer causing bacteria), duodenal ulcer, ibs (irritable bowel syndrome) and mild forms of diverticulitis and colitis, short, Active Manuka Honey is used to help sooth and heal gastro-intestinal issues naturally.

External uses of Active Manuka Honey include:
First degree burn, second degree burn, third degree burn, chemical burns (after thoroughly washing off chemicals with cool water), wounds, infectious wounds, MRSA and/or VRE staph infected wounds, wounds that just wont heal with traditional medicine such as antibiotic ointments, cortison creams etc. old war wounds, amputation stump wounds, chronic wounds, post-operative scars (after caesarean, shoulder or hip operations, cosmetic surgery, tummy tuck, face lift, any surgery that leaves a scar...) first aid wound treatment, ulcers, decubitus ulcers, skin ulcer, diabetic foot ulcers, diabetic leg ulcers, diabetic wound, sores, bed sores, leg sores, scars, insect stings, insect bites, poison oak, poison ivy, minor cuts, abrasions, scratches, itches, severe adult or teenage acne...

Active Manuka Honey with a UMF 10+

Most people use Active Manuka Honey with a UMF range between 16-18 for internal and external applications. However for some people this honey may be too strong and could burn and sting when applied to an external wound. If one feels a burning or stinging sensation lasting longer than 10-15 minutes after application to a wound, or it is simply too painful, one needs to wash off the honey and do one of the following things:

1. Switch to using Active Manuka Honey 10+ for external wound care, or

2. Mix Active Manuka Honey with a UMF range between 16-18 with equal parts, 50/50, with Regular Manuka Honey, then re-apply this mix to the wound. This way you are still using Active Manuka Honey with a lesser strength. This mix should no longer burn or sting. However, for a few people who are extremely sensitive this 50/50 mix may still be too strong. In this case you could try using just Regular Manuka Honey for wound care, as Regular Manuka Honey still has natural anti-bacterial strength, a strength that is less than UMF 10.

Regular Manuka Honey:
Regular Manuka Honey is used for medicinal purposes when experiencing a sore throat, cold, canker sore, fever blister or for manuka honey facials when suffering from acne,  pimples or other skin care issues. Spas mix Regular Manuka Honey into their secret blend of facial masks and body toners. The customer may never know, why the facial mask feels so good and cleansing, clearing the skin from impurities, thanks to the honey's natural "drawing effect". After the facial, the skin feels nice, clean, plump and nourished. You can also use 100% Regular Manuka Honey for facials you can do at home.

Instructions for Manuka Honey Facials:

Tie hair up and away from face. Wash face with Royal Jelly Soap and pat skin dry. Take 1-2 teaspoons of Regular Manuka Honey and spread all over face, the same way you apply sunscreen. Leave Manuka Honey mask on for 30-60 minutes, then wash off with warm water. For dry skin type, apply 7 Cream to face after facial. For regular skin, apply Royal Jelly Hand & Body Lotion which is also used for the face. If you have a more severe, infected adult acne type problem, you can use Active Manuka Honey for the facial.

Regular Manuka Honey is also eatable and tastes delicious in tea, on toast, mixed with butter or peanut butter and is also used as the 'secret' ingredient in cooking, baking and BBQ sauces. Manuka Honey adds a special, unique and non-descript flavor, that no one can really pin point (not even chef cooks!).

Important Note:
After listening to our customer's feedback since 1994, we know that an Active Manuka Honey with a UMF range between 16-18 is the most effective, beneficial and therapeutic for both internal and external applications.

This is the reason, why Manuka Honey USA does not promote Active Manuka Honey with a rating of 20+,25+,30+ etc. because it is way too strong! Not only will you pay a lot more money for such extremely high rated honey, but most people will experience adverse reactions. No, pain, no gain, is NOT true when it comes to healing internal and external ailments naturally with Active Manuka Honey.

When searching information online, one clearly gets the impression that "the higher the UMF rating the better". For more information about the UMF Rating and the most beneficial UMF range, click on the following link:

Our Customer Testimonies can be searched by illness, by product, all testimonies, from medical professionals and the most popular link are the photo testimonials. All testimonies and links are found at:

In Summary:
Use Active Manuka Honey with a UMF range between 16-18 first, if too strong, try Active Manuka Honey 10+ or mix Active Manuka Honey with a UMF range between 16-18, equal parts 50/50 with Regular Manuka Honey. Customer Testimony: "How Meloderm helped with Deep Finger Cut, caused by kitchen knife..."

My poor thumb! First I cut my right thumb's finger nail bed completely un-expected, while opening a bottle of white wine for our dinner guests. While still recovering from the nail bed cut, I unfortunately cut that same thumb quite deep with a kitchen knife while preparing onions to make empanadas, an Argentinean favorite dish. I applied Meloderm (active manuka honey that also contains lanolin) to my cut. It stopped hurting and pulsating almost immediately. The Meloderm felt very soothing. I continued to apply it until the cut was completely healed in about 10 days. Now I can't even see where the cut was, it healed so beautiful without leaving any scar at all! Now I keep Meloderm in my First Air Closet all the time for minor cuts, scratches, rashes etc. E.S. Daytona Beach, FL

Photos of 2nd Degree Burn Wound on Fore-Arm treated with
Active Manuka Honey, Customer from Germany:

I burned my arm on a really hot pot when cooking. At first I just cooled it with ice cubes, and when the strong pain came, I put some Active Manuka Honey and a bandage on it. The next day it turned red and the wound started to become water-filled; after the 4th day the wound opened by itself. For the next 6 days I put every night before going to sleep a fresh honey-bandage on it, changed it in the morning, but let the wound at the air for at least 3 hours a day. At first, the wound was itchy with the honey, but I was told that this is the disinfection process. After this period, the skin became a crust and I just put the honey bandage on it during the night, and a thin adhesive plaster for the day. The wound never became infected and got smaller and smaller every day. After just 15 days after the accident, the skin was completely new. Now, two month later my skin is a little bit darker, but you only notice that when you know where the wound was. Thank you Manuka Honey! G.M. Germany

Customer Testimony: How Active Manuka Honey healed Spider Bite:

My wife suffered
spider bites on her lower left leg. The spider bites got out of control and caused the skin to break, which ended in 4 open sores, looking like bed sores. The sores got infected. The doctor tried to heal the sore with conventional wound healing methods, but he did not succeed. He also ordered a skin graft, which also got infected. After a 6 month ordeal, we looked for help online and found the site www.manukahoneyusa.com, which had Active Manuka Honey for sale. This honey is used for infectious wounds. There was nothing to loose, so we placed an order and started using Active Manuka Honey. It took only 6-8 weeks of honey treatment, now the highly infectious wound is almost healed!  Praise the Lord for his bees! Mr. and Mrs. T. Brick N.J.

Following are BEFORE and AFTER Photos, illustrating the severe spider bite infection, and the healed skin after applying Active Manuka Honey.

Customer Testimony: How Active Manuka Honey helped my mother with MRSA

Hello Paula,
We have been a Manuka Honey Customer since the old Oregon days, and we love all your products. But this letter is about how much your Active Manuka Honey has helped our family. First of all, my mother contracted a staff infection known as MRSA, and we tried the Active Manuka Honey with great success. The MRSA has not shown back up again. Also for me with my heartburn and throat problems, I found that the Active Manuka Honey settled all that along with settling the stomach. I would recommend all your products to the public, soap, toothpaste etc. We continue to use the honey all the time, and it has a great flavor for use on toast and in tea and cooking. Thank you for keeping these great products on the market. Thank you so much and God Bless you Paula. Sincerely P.B.W. Pompano Beach, FL

Customer Testimony: "How Active Manuka Honey closed an open Decubitus Wound in only 12 days!

Customer Testimony: "How Active Manuka Honey healed wound in 7 days after skin cancer removal on lip

On the 25th of September, 2004, I went to the doctor with a problem area on my lower lip. He treated it by surgically removing it and after the biopsy found it to be squamous cell carcinoma. I was told to keep it clean using peroxide then an antibiotic ointment. I did this for almost two weeks. The wound had a very hard black scab and when I ate or talked the wound would open up and bleed. I was a mess. Then my daughter heard about Manuka Honey on the radio and its healing ability, so I went to the Internet and found your Web site, ordered the Active Manuka Honey. I received the order on a Monday, started using the honey, Tuesday a friend asked me if I had had to have additional surgery on my lip because it looked so bad, then Thursday, just three days after applying the honey to my lip the same friend could not believe the difference, the black scab was gone and my lip was healing beautifully. My doctor even told me I would probably want to have plastic surgery. Needless to say, I won't. After only a week of using the  Active Manuka Honey my lip is 90% healed and you have to look or know I had surgery to even know I had skin cancer on my lip. I am a believer, and because I am so excited about the remarkable healing power in the honey, we ordered the oil and look forward to using it. I am telling everyone I know and made copies of your flyer to give to my friends. This is one product that does what it says and I am grateful that I found out about it before I had to have plastic surgery. I regret that I did not take before and after pictures, the healing time was just incredible. Thanks so much. J.C. Oklahoma City, OK

Customer Testimony" Ho Manuka Honey helped with Swollen Bee Sting on Arm:

"After receiving a bee sting on my arm. My arm swelled up a very large area and itched terribly. My doctor told me to get hydrocortisone cream. That didn't help. I tried Adolph's meat tenderizer. A neighbor told me to try tooth paste. That helped a little. Suddenly I though about honey. I had some Manuka Honey. I smeared it all over my arm and covered it with gauze and left it on all night. The next morning it was almost normal. I applied it one more time and I was fine."

Customer Testimony: Using Active Manuka Honey for Large Boil  on left Leg

This last winter, I developed a large boil on the shin of my left leg. I kept it clean and covered and used antibiotic ointment, but with no results. One morning, I got up and the boil had developed a crater 1/2 inch across, with a black, necrotic area 1/2 inch out from the edges of the crater and redness another 1 1/2 inches, a total of about 4 inches across. It was not a diabetic ulcer, as I do not have diabetes, but  it was quite nasty.
Needless to say, that scared me. So I got on the internet and searched for something that might work. I came across the Manuka Honey USA site. I ordered the honey and it was delivered the next day. I immediately started the honey dressings, changing twice a day at first. The next day, things were about the same, but after that, I began to notice the wound gradually getting better day by day, until it was healed. It took a total of about two weeks. J.B. Boynton Beach, FL

'Honey outperforms antibiotics' (by Alternative Medicine Digest)

Researchers attending the First World Wound Healing Congress in Melbourne,  Australia, learned that honey has outperformed conventional antibiotics in treating  burns and infected caesarean sections. Honey can eradicate Salmonella, E. Coli and Helicobacter Pylori and even kill antibiotic-resistant bacteria including the hospital superbug MRSA. Not all types of honey work though. The most effective ones are manuka honey from New Zealand and jelly bush honey from Australia. It is believed that these varieties release hydrogen peroxide, which is deadly to microbes. Dr. Peter Molan of the University of Waikato in New Zealand has found that swallowing a teaspoon of manuka honey on an empty stomach will eradicate the bacteria H. pylori, which causes most stomach ulcers.  - New Scientist

Doctor's turning sweet on healing with honey

Peter Molan, Ph.D., likes to tell the story of the 20-year-old wound. Infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria, an abscess oozed in an English woman's armpit long after it had been drained. Nothing seemed to help, and the pain prevented her from working.

Then in August of 1999, she read about the remarkable wound-healing properties of honey. She convinced doctors to apply some to the dressing to her arm, and a month later the wound healed. Now she's back at work... (click on above link to learn more)
