Manuka Honey Makes Bavarian Vinaigrette Even Better

April 29, 2019

Eating Healthy, Eating Healthy

If you’re one of those folks who plans to eat more salads in the future but ultimately buys too much dressing for the one time you end up eating salad before it goes bad, then we feel for you, because we have been there a time or two ourselves. Rather than worrying about using up that store-bought dressing in your fridge, you can always try making enough of your own dressing without an expiration date hanging over you. In terms of homemade dressing, you can’t go wrong with this Bavarian vinaigrette—made all the better when made with Manuka honey.

For anyone trying to be more health conscious, it’s understandable that one of your first moves would be to eliminate salad dressings from your diet. Given many store-bought salad dressings contain more calories and sugar than most dieters are comfortable with, it’s best to look for homemade recipes that use solid substitutes like Manuka honey. Not only do you get that vinaigrette flavor you expect, but you get it without having to worry about going off your diet just to enjoy your meal.

Ingredients for Bavarian Manuka Honey Vinaigrette

  • ½ teaspoon of ground coriander seed
  • 2 teaspoons of ground cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon of ground cardamom
  • ½ teaspoon of turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 ½ teaspoons of yellow or black mustard seeds
  • 1 ½ teaspoons of fresh chives, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon of good quality, full Hungarian paprika
  • ¼ cup of Manuka honey
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper, freshly ground
  • ½ teaspoon of celery salt
  • ¾ cup of white vinegar
  • 1 garlic clove, small and minced
  • 1 ¾ cup of olive oil

Directions for Bavarian Manuka Honey Vinaigrette

  1. To begin, pour the olive oil and the white vinegar into a food processor bowl.
  2. Then, add the coriander seed, the cumin, the cardamom, the turmeric, the cinnamon, the mustard seeds, the chives, the paprika, the Manuka honey, the black pepper, the celery salt, and the garlic to the food processor bowl, mixing well.
  3. Refrigerate the mixture to chill for a while before using. Make sure to shake the vinaigrette well before using it as a dressing for your salad.
  4. Drizzle the dressing onto a salad of mixed greens with radishes, fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, as well as other favorites you can think of.
  5. Remember to cover any leftover vinaigrette tightly in a squeeze bottle or in a small bowl before refrigerating for later.
